Log message:
	Added a new configure option `--enable-check' accepting the values
	`thorough', for the ordinary lengthy process, and `quick', for
	a quicker process yet to be defined.
	The default for the CVS distribution is `thorough', whereas tar and zip
	packages built with `make dist' default to `quick'.
